Corporate Social Responsibility
Policies
Our corporate socail responsibility is an area that we pay special attention to and work determinately with. A part of our CSR work involves maintaining and complying with the procedures of the standards, since J. Poulsen Shipping A/S and K/S Combi Lift have both been ISO 9001, 14001 and OHSAS 18001 certified. The certifications cover the land based staff as well as the fleet.
In 2011, we prepared a piracy fighting procedure, which we coordinated with the Danish Shipowners' Association, Danish Maritime Authority and the Mininstry. This procedure will be the foundation of our future work on improving safety on board and in the fight against piracy. For the land based staff our CSR also means initiating measures to maintain a healthy and inspiring working environment, where the employees thrive and have the opportunity of personal development. We have a dedicated staff policy where we show consideration of each individual and focus on work-life balance.
Actions
We conduct workplace evaluations and initiate the necessary improvements in connection herewith. Additionally, we also hold quarterly safety meetings and regular performance reviews, as well as encourage further education and training for the employees.
Our ISO manuals are continually adjusted and improved in compliance with current legislation and instructions. We have annual internal and external audits.
The fleet is kept in the best possible condition and we are constantly taking steps to minimize the environmental impact.
Results
The office:
In May 2011, the office was externally audited without any remarks.
In 2011, we initiated several actions to improve the working environment for the employees. In this connection the office was reorganized and rearranged, which helped reduce the noise level. We furhermore conducted questionnaires concerning the indoor climate, carried out health examinations and invited a physiotherapist to educate the employees in health and safety.
The vessels:
The port state controls resulted in a higher number of remarks than previous years. It is our ambition to bring this number down a minimum. In 2011, we cut costs on paint, lub oil and provisions and our ambition is to cut costs with an additional 20% in 2012.
Expectations
The vessels:
We expect to complete the ISO certification of the remaining vessels in the group in 2012. We furthermore expect to improve the vessels in order to minimize their environmental impact. As such we will install engine monitoring performance systems and "flow meter" on fuel intake and output, to give us a better overview of the oil consumption and help us identify cost reduction oppurtunities. We furthermore entered an agreement regarding pumps without stages which are more energy efficient.
Staff:
We will of course continue to focus on improving the conditions within the group, so we can maintain the good working environment and the employees.
In the beginning of 2012 we held courses in lifesaving first aid for the staff at the office in Korsoer.
